Mastitis and milk quality

Along with reproduction, milk quality is the keystone of any dairy enterprise. Increased incidence of clinical mastitis and/or high bulk milk somatic cell count has significant economic implications in terms of decreased milk volume, potential supplier penalties and in some cases loss of the animal. Our experienced Countdown qualified veterinary staff have the skills and knowledge required to investigate milk quality issues, believing that prevention is always better than cure. We have the expertise required to assess cow, environmental and pathogen factors across a range of production and milk harvesting systems. No matter the size of your farm, you no longer have to accept milk quality penalties nor the frustration of high rates of clinical mastitis.

Our team can help you develop an effective milking management plan to:

  • maximise production of quality milk
  • minimise teat damage and mastitis
  • make efficient use of labour and milking facilities.

Reducing heifer mastitis at calving

Insertion of Teatseal® in heifers four to six weeks before calving can reduce mastitis around calving by up to 50%. If you have more than 10% incidence of clinical mastitis in your heifers at calving, Teatseal® treatment of your heifers is likely to give you a profitable return on your investment. Our technicians can make the task of applying Teatseal® easier.
