After Easter bunnies

Rabbits make great pets, yet not everybody is aware of certain aspects of preventative health care for rabbits. If you own a pet rabbit, you may wish to consider the following:

Has your pet rabbit been vaccinated against the deadly calicivirus? Is he or she desexed and microchipped? Did you know that regular health checks are advised for pet rabbits for early detection of health problems?

If you have a bunny that is due for a health check, now is your chance to take advantage of our discounted rates on rabbit consultations ($40), microchipping ($35), and desexing (female $140, male $85).

So hop to it and call for an appointment today!

Desexing your pet rabbit

It is important to have your pet rabbit desexed, not only to prevent unwanted pregnancies but also to improve demeanour, reduce aggressive behaviours and prevent uterine tumours in females. Your rabbit can be desexed from about 4 months of age.

Male rabbits (castration)

This is a day procedure that involves a general anaesthetic. An incision is made over both testicles, which are then removed and the skin closed using tissue glue.

Female rabbits (spey)

This is a day procedure that involves a general anaesthetic. An incision is made into the abdomen, and the entire uterus and both ovaries are removed. The skin is then closed with stitches.
