Microchipping is a very safe procedure, that is very quick and causes minimal pain and discomfort. To administer a microchip the operator must be trained and accredited to do so. The risk involved is very small.

Virtually all species of animal can be microchipped. We most commonly microchip dogs, cats, horses and rabbits, but have also microchipped birds, wildlife and reptiles.

In most Australian States including Victoria, microchipping is compulsory in dogs and cats.

Microchipping is now compulsory. A small chip (about the size of a grain of rice) with an individual number is inserted under your pet’s skin. The microchip number is recorded on a central database with your contact details. It is a standard procedure to scan any lost pet for a microchip. Please remember to change your contact details if you change your address or phone number.
It is also a good idea to get your pet an identification tag with your details and phone number engraved. This should go on the collar.
